Dancing With A Reality Star

I mentioned last ish that something amazing happened at Nick Kenkel's dance class. I danced alongside Michelle "Mochi" Camaya, one of the four frontrunners of the recently concluded Bravo reality show, Step It Up And Dance. I love her! I was rooting for her to win. Sadly, the top honors went to Cody Green. Anyway, Mochi is Filipina and can be seen currently on The Lion King on Broadway.

True enough, I was severely intimidated dancing beside her. The class was very small and very intimate. There were just six of us. Mochi was friends with another class member and the dance teacher himself, who's a great choreographer and recently did one of the segments on Broadway Bares and choreographer on MTV's Search for the New Elle Woods, him being part of Legally Blonde the Musical. I was so self-conscious with my movement. It didn't help that the routine Nick taught us that day was a cool jazz number with a funky flavor to Maroon 5's Makes Me Wonder. I really did my best, to say the least. And I think I did a pretty fair job. My screwups were kinda minimal, better than I had hoped.

I approached her after the class and she gave me a hug. I told her I was a big fan and that I saw her on Broadway Bares and screamed her name. I also told her I was intimidated while we were doing the class. She was very nice. She said we'll see each other in future dance classes.

It's really cool at Equinox. You'll never know who you'll bump into. Last year, I danced next to Ally McBeal star and Broadway star, Jane Krakowski! I don't know why I forgot to blog that one. I've also seen Nigel Barker, that hunky judge/photographer on America's Next Top Model, a couple of times.

Anyway, check out this fantastic obra of Mochi at the Step It Up And Dance finale:
